The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPFTF) budget for 2022 was approved by the Senate yesterday for N65.9 billion.
The sum consists of a N948.8 million personnel expense, a total of N8.85 billion in overhead expenses, and a total of N56.099 billion in capital expenses.
The Senate studied and approved the consolidated report of the House of Representatives and its Committee on Police Affairs before passing the budget.
The report’s presenter, Senator Halliru Dauda Jika, chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, listed the following as the proposed budget’s revenue sources: 0.5% of the total revenue accrued to the federation account, or N52.57 billion; 0.5% of total VAT, or N11.72 billion; 0.5% of net profit of companies in Nigeria, or N1.145 billion; and aids, grants, donations, etc., amounting to N470.25 million.
Jika ascribed the Fund’s inability to carry out its 2021 budget on a legal action brought by the River State government disputing the legitimacy of using its money to finance the Fund.
