The 19th edition of the Asian Games is all set to be hosted in Hangzhou in the People’s Republic of China. Though the official opening ceremony is scheduled for September 23, some team events like football, volleyball and cricket will begin on September 19. On the opening day of the continental showpiece, India are slated to take part in two sports– men’s volleyball and men’s football. The Indian volleyball team will square off against Cambodia in the opening game. The match will be played at 4:30 PM IST.
The Indian team have been competing in men’s volleyball since the Tokyo edition in 1958. Their best performance came in 1962 when the Men in Blue finished as the runners-up. India’s men’s volleyball team also secured the bronze medal in the 1958 and 1986 editions.

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s football team will begin their journey at the Hangzhou Games with a high-voltage clash against hosts China. India will enter the game high on confidence after triumphing at the SAFF Championship earlier in July. The Sunil Chhetri-led side will eye to replicate the performance at the Asian Games to claim the third gold medal in men’s football after 1951 and 1962.
